Wind Over Water Counseling offers trauma-informed, shame-free virtual therapy for eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, and burnout for adults licensed in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina.
Wind Over Water Counseling is a trauma-informed, shame-free therapy practice for adults navigating eating disorders, trauma, and emotional exhaustion – delivered through steady, direct care that centers dignity and relief. This page explains who I work with, how therapy works, and how to take the next step.
Getting help for an eating disorder, complex trauma, or emotional burnout isn’t easy. And when you live in an area without specialists – or you’ve tried therapy before and felt misunderstood – it can feel impossible. That’s why I offer virtual therapy for adults in multiple states, with expertise you won’t find in most local clinics.
I work with people who are exhausted from doing everything “right” and still feeling like they’re never enough. If you’ve been told you’re too sensitive, too anxious, too intense, or just “too much,” let’s talk.
Why Choose Wind Over Water Counseling
You deserve care that’s more than just supportive. You deserve care that’s strategic, experienced, and radically honest—without judgment, without diet culture, and without making you feel broken.
Here’s what makes this practice different:
- 25+ years of specialized experience
I’ve spent my career focused on treating eating disorders, trauma, and emotional overcontrol using evidence-based, compassion-centered approaches. - Clinical Certifications & Credentials
- Virtual therapy designed for real connection
I see clients exclusively via telehealth, offering flexible access to quality care – especially for those in rural, underserved, or specialist-scarce areas. In fact, over half of U.S. counties lack even a single licensed mental health provider. - Trauma-informed, weight-inclusive care
I don’t believe your body is the problem. My work is grounded in Health at Every Size (HAES®), body trust, and an anti-diet framework that integrates DBT, RO-DBT, ACT, mindful self-compassion, and somatic awareness.
What I Treat
You’re in the right place if you’re struggling with:
- Eating disorders (including atypical or disordered eating)
- Body image distress or shame
- Complex or relational trauma
- Emotional burnout or functional freeze
- High-achieving perfectionism or people-pleasing
- Anxiety, self-criticism, or emotional dysregulation
I work with adults 18+ of all identities, sizes, and backgrounds. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally responsive with ongoing certification and consultation to back that up.

What to Expect from Therapy
We’ll start with a free 15-minute consult to make sure we’re a good fit. If we decide to move forward, we’ll co-create a treatment plan that respects your goals, needs, and pace. I offer weekly or biweekly sessions, with the option for longer-format work when needed.
You’ll get real tools, honest feedback, and a space to untangle shame without needing to censor your emotions, story, or language. And maybe a little bit of humor and some random factoids.
